No. 3 Northwestern Works Pioneers, 20-9 - Jack tallies three goals in loss
DENVER – Senior Crystal Jack (Kingwood, Texas) scored three goals but it was not enough as the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team fell to Northwestern University 20-9, Sunday afternoon at All-City Stadium. The loss drops the Pioneers’ record to 1-3, while the Wildcats improve to 3-0.
Northwestern’s Christy Finch scored the first goal of the game, but Denver responded with one of their own from sophomore Kate Broderick (Chantilly, Va.), off a feed from junior Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.), to even the score. Northwestern tallied seven more goals before Jack scored her eighth goal of the season to leave Denver trailing 8-2. Jack and freshman Victoria Baines (Parker, Colo.) each added goals in the last four minutes of the half to put the score at 12-4 at the end of the half.
The Wildcats again dominated most of the second half, outscoring Denver 8-5. The Pioneers received two scores apiece from junior Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and freshman Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.), and another from Jack.
Northwestern’s Laura Glassanos led all scorers with five goals and one assist. Jack was the leading scorer for the Pioneers, tallying three goals. Teammate Carver also added two goals and two assists.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 5, at 7 p.m., when they host Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival California at the new Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
