Four Pioneers Tally Hat Tricks as Denver Sails - Pioneers pound Saint Mary’s College, 16-2

DENVER – Four different Pioneers tallied hat tricks as the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team sailed to a 16-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over the Saint Mary’s College Gaels on Saturday, April 9 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The win improves Denver’s record to 3-10 overall and 2-1 in the MPSF. The Gaels fall to 1-10, 0-4.

Senior Crystal Jack (Kingwood, Texas) had a game-high four goals while junior Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.), senior Tara Bourdelaise (Grambrills, Md.) and junior Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) scored three apiece.

SMC’s Ally High scored the game’s first goal six minutes into the contest. Greenlees, freshman Megan Tyrie (Littleton, Colo.) and Jack (three goals) all scored for the Pioneers to give Denver a 5-1 lead at 18:24. Jessica Tsou scored the Gael’s second and final goal at 27:08.

The Pioneer dominated the rest of the contest as Greenlees (twice) and Fuchs scored in the closing minutes of the half to give Denver an 8-2 advantage.

Denver scored eight goals in the second half as Fuchs (twice), freshman Kelly O’Connell (Baltimore, Md.), Bourdelaise (three times), Jack and senior Ryan Crowley (Sudbury, Mass.) all scored for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers’ defense caused 25 Saint Mary’s College turnovers and limited the Gaels to only 10 shots and two goals. SMC did not score in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Steph Schneider (Leesburg, Va.) made seven saves as Denver outshot SMC, 52-10. Katie Augustine made 26 saves in the cage for the Gaels.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they host Regis at 4 p.m. at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
