Greenlees Records Second Consecutive Hat Trick in 9-7 Victory
Pioneers off to best start ever
DENVER – Senior Stephanie Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded her second consecutive hat trick as the Denver Pioneers defeated the Duquesne Dukes, 9-7 today at Barton Stadium. The Pioneers are off to a 2-0 start, their best start ever. Senior Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also registered three points off two goals and an assist.
DU scored three goals in the game’s first 11 minutes to take an early 3-0 lead. Ashley Wood’s goal at the 17:23 mark of the first half would be Duquesne’s first and last goal of the half as the Pioneers rattled off the next three goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead into halftime.
The Dukes scored four of the second half’s first five goals to put the score at 7-5 with 14:06 remaining in the game. DU’s two seniors, Fuchs and Greenlees, scored the game’s next to goals to put the game out of reach at 9-5 at the 6:33 mark. Duquesne did a little cosmetic surgery on the score, netting the final two tallies of the game to make the final score, 9-7.
Up next, DU returns to action with a 2 p.m. MT matchup at Virginia Tech next Sunday.
