DU freshman shines on the road

WOODLAND, Calif. - Freshman Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week for leading the University of Denver women's lacrosse team to a pair of road wins at George Washington and Mount St. Mary's. Morton becomes the second Pioneer to earn player of the week accolades. Fellow teammate Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won the award on March 14.

Morton tallied 10 points on nine goals and one assist for the week, scoring the game-winning goal in both of DU's games last week. The freshman began the week with four goals, one ground ball and one draw control in DU's 9-8 win at George Washington. She followed up with five goals, one assist, five ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers in DU's 17-10 win at Mount St. Mary's.

Morton is the first freshman to win this award in 2006.
