Outlaws Acquire Cara
Outlaws trade Goettelmann for Bucknell’s all-time leading scorer

DENVER – April 12, 2006 – The Denver Outlaws acquired attackman Chris Cara and two second round draft picks Monday from Long Island in exchange for Tim Goettelmann and a fourth round draft pick on Wednesday.

In an earlier transaction, the Outlaws released goaltenders Pat McGinnis and Tim Flanagan. They signed goaltender Alex Smith and midfielder Greg Bastis.

Cara, a 2005 graduate of Bucknell University, was selected by the Lizards in the third round of the 2005 Collegiate Draft. As a Lizard, the 5-foot, 8-inch, 170-pound attackman, posted two goals and one assist in three games. While at Bucknell, Cara, the school’s all-time leading scorer, led the nation in scoring for two consecutive seasons and was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. In 2005, he earned Most Valuable Player honors at the USILA Division I Men's Lacrosse North-South Senior All-Star Game.

“Chris Cara gives us a very good playmaker at attack,” said Outlaws GM Brian Reese. “He is young, hungry, and very talented and we are extremely excited to have him playing for the Outlaws. In addition to Chris we are in a position to draft two more players in the top 20 of this year’s collegiate draft.”

Smith (6-0, 195), 25, attended Colorado State University where he ranks as the school’s all-time leader with 232 saves.

Bastis (5-11, 195), 23, attended Middlebury College where he helped the Panthers to two NCAA Division III national championships and three-straight championship appearances.

Goettelmann was acquired by the Outlaws in the fifth round of the 2005 Expansion Draft from Long Island. Goettelmann, who played in Long Island since the League’s inception in 2001, has scored 131 career goals, an average of 26 per season.
