DU Men’s Lacrosse Team Hosts Colgate This Weekend
Pioneers welcome Patriot League member Colgate to Barton Stadium
DENVER-The No. 15 ranked University of Denver men’s lacrosse team welcomes Colgate to Peter Barton Stadium Saturday, March 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. (MT) and is the second game of a doubleheader with the women’s lacrosse team who take on Hofstra at 11 a.m.
The Pioneers are coming off of a 2-0 weekend at the Pioneer Face-Off Classic, Feb. 25-26. The Pioneers took down Manhattan, 19-2 in the first game and posted a come from behind victory over No. 13 North Carolina in the final game of the tournament. Senior Geoff Snider (Calgary, Alberta) earned MVP honors for his efforts throughout the weekend while teammates Jeb Hollingsworth (Darien, Conn.), Ryan Zordani (Littleton, Colo.) and Rory Shepard (Riverside, Conn.) were named to the All-Tournament Team. Snider also earned Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Week honors for his outstanding play and head coach Jamie Munro was named Coach of the Week by US Lacrosse for guiding the Pioneers to victories in last weekend’s games.
The Pioneers are led offensively by junior Brandon Barcus (Dublin, Ohio), who has recorded six goals and one assist for seven points in DU’s first three games. Snider is 38-of-60 (.633) from the face-off circle through the first three games, while Hollingsworth owns a 1-1 record and posts an 8.35 goals against average. He has made 23 saves on the season.
The Colgate Red Raiders enter the weekend with a 2-0 (0-0 Patriot League) record after posting victories over Hartford and Sacred Heart. The Red Raiders defeated Hartford, 11-7 in their home-opener and bested Sacred Heart, 12-10 on Feb. 25. The team is led by sophomore Matt Lalli who has five goals and two assists on the season. In the cage for the Raiders is Andrew Jarolimek, who has an 8.50 goals against average and has made 17 saves in 120 minutes of action.
The Pioneers conclude their four-game homestand March 12 when they take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Face-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Barton Stadium.
