DU Men’s Lacrosse Team Clinches First-Ever NCAA Tournament Bid In Program History
Pioneers earn the Great Western Lacrosse League’s automatic berth after going 2-0 on the weekend
DENVER-The No. 16 Denver Pioneer men’s lacrosse team has clinched its first-ever NCAA tournament bid in program history after knocking off Ohio State and Butler this weekend. The Pioneers were tied with both Ohio State and Air Force in league standings entering weekend play but after defeating Ohio State and Butler and two Air Force losses the Pioneers claim the Great Western Lacrosse League title and earn the leagues automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
“We as a program have worked very hard to get to get a chance to compete at the NCAA tournament,” head coach Jamie Munro said. We are thrilled to get an opportunity to play in the postseason but we also realize that we have a lot of work to do before then and are excited about the challenge.”
Although the Pioneers have clinched the Great Western Lacrosse League title and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament, there is still one more weekend left in the regular season. The Pioneers will head to Colorado Springs for a game against Air Force April 29. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. (MT).
