Piscataway, N.J. – The Denver Outlaws (4-1) scored eight of the game’s first 10 goals, including a two-pointer, to open a 12-5 halftime lead and held on for a 19-15 win over the New Jersey Pride (3-2) in front of 2,822 at Yurcak Field.

Denver’s offense was paced by Matt Brown who tallied seven points (5-2—7) and Brian Langtry who recorded six points (3-2—6), including a two-pointer. The defense kept the clamps on the league’s leading scorer, limiting Pride attack Scott Urick to one goal.

In a homecoming of sorts, Princeton University alums, Trevor Tierney and Josh Sims impacted the outcome. MLL All-Star Sims posted five points (3-1—5), including a two-pointer while Team USA netminder Tierney made 15 saves for his fourth win of the season. In his season debut, University of Denver product, Geoff Snider won two-of-five faceoffs and gathered three groundballs for the Outlaws.

Denver received a pair of goals from Brendan Mundorf and Hunter Lochte and one from Mike Law to round out the night’s scoring.

Brown opened the game’s scoring with a bounce shot that evaded New Jersey netminder Rob Scherr 28 seconds into the contest. He added the game’s second goal when he took a feed from Langtry and tucked a shot under Scherr.

Mundorf notched his first of two markers 5:39 into the first quarter to open a 3-0 lead. After New Jersey notched its first goal of the game, Matt Rewkowski found the twine to open a 4-1 lead. Law gathered the ensuing faceoff, dashed to the cage and slipped a shot past Scherr to stretch the Outlaws’ lead to 5-1 just 14 seconds later.

After the Pride crept within three at 5-2, Langtry stretched the lead to 7-2 with a two-pointer with 2:42 remaining in the opening quarter.

In the second quarter, Josh Sims recorded the first of his three goals (including his fourth two-pointer of the season) with under a minute remaining in the first half to open a 12-4. New Jersey’s A.J. Haugen answered with 37 seconds remaining in the half to narrow the score to 12-5.

The Pride started the second half with three consecutive goals, including a two-pointer by Adam Doneger to move within 12-9.

The teams traded goals through the third quarter, as the Outlaws clung to a 16-12 lead to start the fourth quarter.

New Jersey’s Liam Banks and Jesse Hubbard made it a one-point game on Hubbard’s 200th career goal (a two-pointer) with over 11 minutes left in the game.

Sims answered Hubbard’s two-pointer with one of his own with 10:24 remaining from Matt Hanna. Langtry provided the game’s final goal with a nifty shot from 10 feet out with over two minutes remaining.

The Outlaws return home for two-straight home games against Western Conference rivals. San Francisco returns to INVESCO Field at Mile High on Saturday night before Los Angeles makes its first trip to Denver on July 1.
